Many people don’t want to have cats for one simple reason - they feel sorry for the furniture. However, if you train a cat to a scratching post, the problem will be solved by itself.

No water, just concrete advice. Feel free to use it!

  1. As soon as you see that the cat is pointing its claws at the sofa, pick it up immediately and carry it to the scratching post. There take the cat by his front paws and, exerting a little pressure, guide him along the surface of the scratcher;
  2. When the cat starts to stretch (especially in the morning), pick him up and also take him to the scratching post;
  3. Try to attract the cat’s attention with smells. For instance, you can put catnip on the scratcher - its scent will definitely interest the cat;
  4. The forbidden places for sharpening claws are easy to protect from the purr. Spray a citrus scented liquid on them;
  5. Use the carrot and stick method. For example, if the animal started sharpening claws in the wrong place, you can shout a little at him, and for choosing the right place of sharpening - on the contrary, praise;
  6. Always place the scratching post as close as possible to the place where the cat likes to sharpen its nails. It will be much easier for her to get used to it.
