Exotic Cat

2014-10-31

The feline world is filled with a variety of breeds. We haven’t seen any cats whatsoever, there is even a breed of cat dog and yet the breeders can’t come to terms with it. These people all the time it seems that the best breed has not yet been created, and so we must continue to strive for new breeds. However, sometimes the result of their experiments is not at all what was expected. Flattened nose, stocky body, thick legs, straight tail - that’s what an exotic cat is. Exot’s visiting card is an unusual coat, due to its density, the cat looks more like a charming bear cub. At the same time the wool has a unique feature: it never tangles enough to form tangles.

Breed history

The Exot was introduced to the world only in the 1960s, when breeders decided to improve the American short-haired breed. To do this, they crossed a purebred Persian cat with a representative American. It was assumed that the output of three or four litters would result in an ideal combination: a weighted version of the American. But not everything in the hands of cat breed innovators, as they got not just a kitten, but a completely unexpected new breed. Breeders were amazed at what they saw: the flattened nose of the Persian, the structure of the same Persian, but the fur - it was like a miracle. The texture was so strikingly different from both parents, that for a while the breeders even doubted whether it was a mutation. However, further experiments only confirmed the obvious: a new breed was born. At first, the commission wanted to enter the exot as a silver short-haired. It was already a miracle, as associations are extremely negative to such experiments, believing that it spoils the genetics of purebreds. But the kittens were so adorable and Persian-like that they were entered in the breed registry as an exotic breed. At the same time, all the standards, including the colors applied to Persian purebreds, apply in full to exotics as well.

Peculiarities of an exotic cat’s disposition

Vitality and playfulness distinguish the breed from the average Persian. As children they are badasses and pranksters, from whom you should hide anything that might arouse their interest. You can find the little exot everywhere: in a shoebox, between radiators, in the washing machine. This strikingly lively creature will stick its flattened nose everywhere. Having a peaceful disposition, the exot will get along well with other animals. It is believed that cats of this breed are very sensitive and do not impose their communication. This is true, but they have an amazing ability to mimic. If the beloved owner does not pay attention for too long, according to the exotics, get ready to see the expression of universal sorrow on his face. This expression is not to be confused with anything else. Usually, exots don’t bother much with their presence. But you should know that exotics, as well as the Persians themselves, are strongly attached to their beloved owner. There is an invisible, inseparable connection between man and cat. A cat of this breed senses the owner’s mood. The cat will feel sad without attention, and may even stop to play and eat. Therefore, the exot must be caressed and cherished from the cat’s diapers. An adult exot does not bring much trouble. Having the natural ability to understand the owner, he will gladly learn all the rules of the house. It’s important to remember: the breed is extremely sensitive to the atmosphere in the home and family. Do not rush to scold the kitten, if he confused the potty with the floor. It is possible that shortly before the cat was frightened by the cry of the household.

Care and peculiarities of keeping

In general, the exotic breed brings no problems. Her unusual fur doesn’t pile up, turning into tangles. You just need to buy a comb with a fairly frequent comb and rounded ends. This is just enough to comb through the pet and get to the undercoat. By the way, you should accustom your pet to this process from the very beginning, otherwise the comb will be either the enemy, or a toy. In both cases, combing the fidget will be impossible. In feeding, the exot can be capricious, so let him choose his own food. It is better to feed him special food, but strictly premium class. No economy class: Kitiket, Whiskas and others. These foods contain cadaver meal, which is poison to cats. Also, minimize fish to eliminate the provocation of invasiveness and IBC (urolithiasis). Do not give milk to exotics because it is not digested in Persian breeds.

The health of exots is not considered strong, so pay attention to your pet. The Persian breed itself paid a high price for its extraordinary beauty: almost zero immunity. The exot, due to its hybridity, has immunity, but it is quite weakened. It is necessary to constantly monitor the pet’s spout. The exotic breed is prone to frequent respiratory illnesses. Even at home, cats often sneeze, you need to help them clear their airways. If you decide to get such a beauty, you must understand: the exot is not for the street. This breed is exclusively for home keeping, in room conditions.
