Scabies in cats is a disease called “demodechosis” triggered by mites. The body of cats affected by microscopic parasites quickly becomes exhausted and loses resistance to various diseases.

Scabies in cats develops due to the introduction of the mite Demodex cati under the skin. It is a small gray worm with short legs and trunk on the head. Its localization sites are the sebaceous glands and hair follicles of the pet. In general, mites can also live on the skin of healthy cats, but certain factors are necessary for their activity, such as:

  • hereditary susceptibility;
  • the age of the animal (often affected by scabies individuals under 2 years);
  • reduction of general and local immunity;
  • breed predisposition.

Symptoms of scabies in cats

Demodex in cats can proceed in 2 forms - scaly and pustular-papular. Occasionally, a mixed form of the disease develops. The symptomatology of scabies is represented by the following abnormalities:

  1. alopecia around the mouth, ears, nose, extremities;
  2. fusion of foci of alopecia;
  3. redness of the skin, its scaly and wrinkled appearance;
  4. nodular rashes that fester over time;
  5. the presence of holes in the skin seals, from which a white fluid of thick consistency is secreted.

Treatment of scabies in cats

Antiparasitic injections of Amirtrazine, Novomec, Ivermectin are prescribed to eliminate the mites. Anti-inflammatory ointments and Stomazan solution are used for external treatment. Immunoparasitane is prescribed for the purpose of body resistance to parasite activity.
